Notre dame inspired Surface Pattern Design
On a trip to Paris I took this photo of Notre Dame's facade. Rich in ornament, it inspired me to create a new surface pattern design. The intricate Gothic architecture of Notre Dame's western facade is a testament to medieval craftsmanship, featuring a stunning array of sculptures, gargoyles, and delicate stone tracery. This visual feast of symmetry and detail serves as a powerful reminder that inspiration for pattern design can originate from anywhere, filtered through the unique lens of the designer's perception. While the cathedral's weathered limestone and the cool hues of the Parisian skyline at midday informed my initial color palette, I knew I needed to adapt the Cathedral’s tones to suit my target market's preferences and the intended end-use settings for the product. The process of translating architectural grandeur into a contemporary surface pattern underscores the designer's role in bridging historical beauty with modern functionality, creating designs that resonate across time and culture.
